SALMAN RUSHDIE IS ‘ARTICULATE,’ TALKING TO COPS AFTER ATTACK

News Desk World

Hadi Matar, 24, in court in New York on Saturday.

Tue 16  August 2022:

Salman Rushdie, a British novelist who was recently stabbed numerous times while attending an event in New York state, is awake. According to a law enforcement officer with firsthand knowledge of the inquiry, who was quoted by CNN on Tuesday (August 16), the author is “articulate” when speaking with investigators.

After being stabbed on a stage at the Chautauqua Institution in New York state last Friday, Rushdie is reportedly making a full recovery in the hospital.

The suspect in the attack, identified as 24-year-old Hadi Matar,, who lived in Fairview, New Jersey, traveled to Buffalo via bus and used a ridesharing app to reach Chautauqua the day before the attack, according to the law enforcement official

The 75-year-old was stabbed as the assailant jumped to the stage. The novelist had urgent surgery after suffering life-threatening injuries.

The author suffered three stab wounds to his neck, four stab wounds to his stomach, puncture wounds to his right eye and chest, and a laceration on his right thigh, Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt said during Matar’s arraignment over the weekend. Rushdie may lose sight in his right eye, he noted, adding that the attack was targeted and preplanned.

According to the law enforcement official, the writer was conscious Monday and he was able to respond to investigators during the probe.

However, there’s no mention of what Rushdie told the investigators regarding the attack that shocked the world.

Because of his infamous novel “The Satanic Verses”, Rushdie spent years hiding under death threats from Iran. The novel was banned in many countries with large Muslim populations.
