SPECIALISTS FROM RUSSIA ARRIVED IN SA TO FIGHT COVID-19, RUSSIAN HEALTH MINISTRY SAYS

Russian Health Ministry specialists have arrived in South Africa to assist with the coronavirus response effort, according to a statement from the ministry.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa previously agreed that a team of virologists, a laboratory, and medical equipment to combat COVID-19 would be sent to South Africa as soon as possible.

“A plane with a group of specialists from the Russian Ministry of Health, sent to South Africa on an instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has arrived in Johannesburg,” the ministry said.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry reported Friday that a plane carrying virologists and a COVID-19 mobile lab had left for South Africa.
