SUICIDE BOMB ATTACK ATTEMPT IN TURKISH CAPITAL ANKARA

  One of the terrorists neutralized by Turkish Police during the attempted terror attack in Ankara.

Two police officers have been injured in a suicide bombing attack in front of the Interior Ministry in the Turkish capital, Ankara, according to the country’s interior minister. Their wounds are not life-threatening. Ali Yerlikaya says in a post on social media that two attackers were responsible for the explosion.

Following the explosion and gunshots heard near the Ministry of Internal Affairs building, police forces took extensive security measures in the area.

Atatürk Boulevard was closed to traffic due to the explosion sound heard at a point close to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Çankaya gate.

Special operations police also arrived at the scene. Fire brigade and medical teams are also at the scene.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya announced that 2 terrorists who came with a light commercial vehicle in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at around 09.30, carried out a bomb attack and 2 police officers were slightly injured.

In his statement on his social media account, Yerlikaya said the following about the attack:

“At around 09.30, two terrorists who came with a light commercial vehicle in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of Internal Affairs, carried out a bomb attack. One of the terrorists blew himself up, and the other terrorist was neutralized.

During the fire, 2 of our police officers were slightly injured. I wish a speedy recovery to our heroes.

“Our fight will continue relentlessly until the last terrorist is neutralized.”

Ankara authorities warn citizens over controlled detonations

Authorities in Ankara have warned the citizens over suspicious packages and bags that are being “detonated in a controlled manner”.

Ankara Security Directorate asked citizens not to panic during this process, following the bomb attack in the metropolis.

It said on social media: “Necessary security measures will be taken regarding suspicious packages around Kizilay and the General Directorate of Security, and controlled explosions will be carried out by bomb disposal teams.”

Investigation launched into Ankara attack: Justice minister

Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc says a judicial investigation has been initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into “the treacherous attack”.

“Under the coordination of the Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor assigned to the incident, the investigation will continue in a comprehensive manner in all aspects,” Tunc said in a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

He also condemned the attack, wishing a speedy recovery to the wounded police officers.

The minister added: “These attacks will in no way hinder Turkey’s fight against terrorism. Our fight against terrorism will continue even more decisively. Let no one have any doubt about this.”
