Mon 17 February 2025:

The Syrian Ministry of Defence and armed factions in the south of the country have agreed to establish four brigades under the ministry’s command, consisting of 10,000 fighters from the area, local media reported.

Exclusive sources told Syria TV that “the agreed brigades in the southern region include one brigade in Daraa, another in western rural Daraa, a third in the eastern countryside, and a fourth currently being prepared in Sweida.”

The sources added that “these southern brigades will be stationed in Daraa, Sweida, and Quneitra’s provinces. They will consist of three infantry brigades and one special forces brigade.”

On 29 January, Syria’s new administration issued a series of decisions, including the dissolution of all armed opposition factions, as well as the army and security agencies.

Since taking power, the new administration has opened dozens of centres to settle the status of former soldiers after their discharge from service.
