Mon 20 January 2025:

A teenager on Monday pleaded guilty to the murder of three young girls during a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport last summer.

Axel Rudakubana, a British citizen born in Cardiff, Wales, faces multiple charges, including three counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder, following the attack on July 29.

The attack took place at Hart Space, a local sanctuary where young girls had gathered for a summer dance class.

What began as an afternoon of celebration on the first day of summer vacation ended in tragedy when Rudakubana stormed the venue, stabbing several children and their teacher.

Previously, not-guilty pleas were entered on his behalf after he failed to respond when the charges were put to him.

He has now changed his plea to guilty on all counts.

On July 29, 2024, a tragic incident occurred at a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop in Southport, England, where three young girls lost their lives in a stabbing attack. The victims were six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar. The assailant, 18-year-old Axel Rudakubana, also injured ten others during the attack.

Rudakubana, who was 17 at the time of the attack, had a history of concerning behavior. He had been expelled from school for carrying a knife and had previously attempted to attack former classmates with a hockey stick. Despite being referred to the Prevent counter-radicalization program on three occasions due to his interest in death and violence, no preventive actions were taken.

Following the attack, misinformation spread on social media falsely identifying Rudakubana as a muslim migrant, which led to nationwide riots, attacks on mosques, and over 1,500 arrests. Prime Minister Keir Starmer criticized the state’s failure to protect the victims and announced an independent public inquiry to understand how the attack happened and to prevent future tragedies.
