Thu 04 November 2021:

Uber drivers in London will be able to buy or lease Tesla automobiles as a green vehicle beginning Wednesday as part of an incentive scheme to encourage the usage of electric vehicles, according to the ride-hailing app.

Uber said cars will be available for lease or purchase by drivers interested in eco-friendly vehicles, according to Reuters

“There is still a lot of work to do to drive a green recovery and clean up urban transport, but the progress we are seeing in London is significant and as a city we are leading the way globally,” said Uber’s head in Northern and Eastern Europe, Jamie Heywood, Reuters reported.

In London, almost 4,000 Uber drivers have switched to electric vehicles, giving the service the most entirely electric cars of any major worldwide metropolis.

More than 135 million pounds ($184.38 million) has been collected for drivers to spend toward environmentally-friendly models at subsidized rates with partners such as Nissan and Kia since Uber implemented a clean air fee, which adds 3 pence (4 cents) to every mile of a passenger trip in London.

Uber announced on Wednesday that Tesla will join the program, little over a week after announcing a collaboration with Hertz to offer 50,000 Teslas as a rental option for its ride-hail drivers in the United States by 2023.
