Tue 18 October 2022:
Google has announced that Meet calls can now be converted into text and saved by users in Google Doc format.
The saved file can be accessed from Google Drive, according to Android Central.
One of the most used apps is Google Meet, especially after it took the place of the Google Duo app on iOS and Android devices. Google has clarified that the new feature is only available for English speakers and can be accessed in Google Meet for desktop or laptop clients.
According to Google, the transcript can be downloaded from the associated Google Drive storage and placed in the Google Meet app’s “Meeting Recordings” folder.
Attendees will be informed that the call is being recorded before they join the Google Meet call.
Another nifty feature is that the “transcript will automatically be attached to the associated calendar invite for the meeting”.
And for meetings involving more than 200 attendees, the transcribed file will be shared with meeting organisers, hosts, co-hosts, and individual users who initiated a transcription.
The launch of the new feature is anticipated to begin on October 24. Customers of Google Workspace Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade will have access to it.
