Sat 28 August 2021:
Thousands of people gathered in Berlin on Saturday to protest the government’s anti-coronavirus actions, despite several planned gatherings being banned.
Police have canceled nine planned protests on Saturday, including one organized by the Stuttgart-based Querdenker movement, Germany’s most visible anti-lockdown movement. On Saturday and Sunday, a court ordered that one protest, with a capacity of 500 people, might be held.
More than 2,000 police officers were stationed throughout the city to deal with anyone who defied the bans and showed up anyhow.

Meanwhile, a counter-protest known as the “Love Train,” complete with techno music, gathered its own sizable throng. These protesters are in favor of government measures aimed at limiting the spread of the coronavirus.
The protests on Saturday come as Germany considers how and whether to impose limitations on unvaccinated persons, a subject that is becoming more pressing as the number of coronavirus cases rises.
Similar protests occurred in Berlin in early August, which resulted in clashes with police and the detention of hundreds of individuals.
