Mon 01 November 2021:
On Monday morning, jury selection began in the Kenosha County Circuit Court for the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, who is accused of shooting three people, killing two, during Black Lives Matter protests in August 2020.
On Monday, Judge Bruce Sch began the jury selection process. The legal teams will select 20 jurors from a pool of 34 candidates to sit through the trial, which is expected to take several weeks.
Six charges have been filed against Rittenhouse, including first-degree reckless homicide with a dangerous weapon, recklessly endangering safety with a dangerous weapon, refusal to obey an emergency management order, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under the age of 18.
In August 2020, Rittenhouse traveled from his home in Antioch, Illinois to Kenosha, Wisconsin, armed with an AR-15-style rifle and in response to a Kenosha-based militia that called for protection for businesses against protesters supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.
