On Monday, Judge Bruce Sch began the jury selection process. The legal teams will select 20 jurors from a pool of 34 candidates to sit through the trial, which is expected to take several weeks.

Six charges have been filed against Rittenhouse, including first-degree reckless homicide with a dangerous weapon, recklessly endangering safety with a dangerous weapon, refusal to obey an emergency management order, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under the age of 18.

In August 2020, Rittenhouse traveled from his home in Antioch, Illinois to Kenosha, Wisconsin, armed with an AR-15-style rifle and in response to a Kenosha-based militia that called for protection for businesses against protesters supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.
