Proposed plan would deepen regional cooperation, advance Israel-Arab normalization and address unresolved Gaza and Syria issues

The Trump administration is preparing a post-war strategy for the Middle East aimed at containing Iran through stronger regional cooperation and expanding diplomatic normalization between Israel and neighboring countries, Axios reported Friday.

The plan is still being drafted and is expected to guide US policy after the war with Iran and during the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term. Planning is reportedly taking place among senior political officials and across government agencies.

Trump has discussed the proposal with senior advisers during two recent meetings and has privately referred to his ambitions as “something much bigger” in the Middle East.

Three priorities under consideration

According to the report, officials are considering three main objectives:

Establishing a regional alliance of US partners to contain Iran, with Washington acting as its guarantor.
Addressing issues linked to the October 7 attacks, including the next stage of Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan, a possible Israel-Syria security agreement and the implementation of the Israel-Lebanon agreement.
Expanding the Abraham Accords through a potential normalization agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Elections could influence the plan

Israel’s October 27 elections and the US midterm elections in November are reportedly key factors in the administration’s calculations.

The White House hopes Israel’s next government will support the proposed strategy. However, officials said Trump plans to move forward regardless of the election result, including if the vote produces political deadlock.

A source familiar with the process said the drafting phase could continue for several more weeks.

“They are cooking it but it is not yet cooked,” the source said.

“The idea is to tie a whole lot of things in the region together — how you create a regional alignment after the war. It is still unclear if all U.S. allies in the region will be on board,” the person added.
