U.S. DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN UKRAINE WAR, RUSSIA SAYS

Sat 07 May 2022:

On Saturday, Russia’s top legislator accused the US of coordinating military actions in Ukraine, which he claimed amounted to direct US military action against Russia.

“Washington is essentially coordinating and developing military operations, thereby directly participating in military actions against our country,” Vyacheslav Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel.

Kyiv has received heavy weapons from Washington and European NATO countries to assist it repel a Russian offensive that has resulted in the seizure of parts of eastern and southern Ukraine but has failed to capture Kyiv.

The US and its NATO allies, on the other hand, have repeatedly stated that they will not fight in order to avoid becoming participants to the conflict.

Officials from the United States have stated that the US has provided intelligence to Ukraine to aid in the counter-offensive against Russia, but have disputed that this intelligence contains accurate targeting data.

Volodin, speaker of the lower house of parliament, the Duma, is a prominent advocate of what Moscow calls its “special operation” in Ukraine to degrade its southern neighbour’s military capabilities and root out what it calls fascist elements holding sway over the government and military.

The accusation of fascism is false, according to Ukraine and the West, and Russia has engaged in unprovoked aggression. Thousands of people have died in Ukraine as a result of the fighting, and more than five million people have fled the country.

Foreign advisers have been operating in Ukraine since the “coup d’etat,” according to Volodin, referring to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s democratic victory in 2019.

Biden to sign $100 million weapons package

U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to sign a new weapons package for Ukraine in the coming days worth at least $100 million, three U.S. officials told Reuters on Friday.

The officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the latest package would likely include more munitions for systems like the Howitzers.

The United States has rushed $3.4 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine since Russia invaded on Feb. 24, including howitzers, anti-aircraft Stinger systems, anti-tank Javelin missiles, ammunition and body armor.
