Wed 06 April 2022:

The United States has targeted Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev in the latest round of “full blocking sanctions,” the White House announced on Wednesday.

“Full blocking sanctions on Russian elites and their family members, including sanctions on: President Putin’s adult children, Foreign Minister Lavrov’s wife and daughter and members of Russia’s Security Council including former President and Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin,” the White House said in a press release.

Daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Katerina Tikhonovna and Maria Putina, who are in their 30s, are rarely seen in public and almost never mentioned by their father. The Kremlin has only ever identified them by their first names.

“We believe that many of Putin’s assets are hidden with family members, and that’s why we’re targeting them,” said a senior administration official who spoke on background to preview the new measures.

Two of Russia’s largest banks, Sberbank and Alfa Bank will also be subjected to full blocking sanctions for the first time, albeit with carve outs for energy purchases.

Several major Russian state enterprises are being placed under full blocking sanctions, the White House said, with specific entities to be announced later this week by the Treasury Department.
