Fri 12 November 2021:

The UK military will assist Poland in strengthening its border fence with Belarus, according to Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak on Friday.

“Reconnaissance activities have been launched before the support of the UK engineering troops. Our soldiers will cooperate in strengthening the fence on the Polish-Belarusian border,” Blaszczak wrote on Twitter.

Tensions erupted on November 8 as a result of migrants attempting to enter Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia via Belarus. Several thousand people converged on the Belarusian-Polish border, with some attempting to cross by cutting barbed-wire barriers.

On November 12, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, members of the United Nations Security Council, accused Belarusian authorities of fomenting a migrant crisis along the country’s border with Poland.

According to earlier reports, the EU is working on a fifth package of sanctions against Minsk that would not include sectoral economic limitations and will instead target government leaders and law enforcement agents. Air carriers suspected of transporting migrants to the EU border may also be blacklisted.
