Police in London said on Saturday that they had made over 60 arrests and expected that figure to rise, as they tried to break up anti-lockdown and anti-vaccine protests. The police said that the arrests had been made for different offences including breaching coronavirus restrictions. England’s current lockdown ends on Dec. 2.
The group Save Our Rights UK said it held the protest, which started from Marble Arch earlier.
The Metropolitan Police said it expected the number of arrests to rise throughout Saturday and urged people to go home.
A number of demonstrators could be seen being handcuffed by police officers on Saturday afternoon.
Demonstrators – many of whom were not wearing face masks – booed at police and shouted “shame on you” as disorderly scenes unravelled.

“These were for a number of different offences, including breaching coronavirus restrictions. We expect this number to rise. We continue to urge people to go home.”
Civil rights groups Liberty and Big Brother Watch have argued that the right to safely protest should be explicitly outlined as an exemption in regulations covering England’s tiered restrictions, which are due to come into force next week.
