The school is being accused of denying the children their religious freedom and the right to pray in privacy

A school in the United Kingdom has garnered severe criticism after its Muslim students were spotted performing their afternoon prayers in a car park during the holy fasting month of Ramadan. The Loxford School in Ilford, east London, only provides facilities within school boundaries on Fridays, however students lack a place to pray at from Monday to Thursday, reported British online publication Metro. The school is being accused of denying the children their religious freedom and the right to pray in privacy, which it strongly denied, saying “Students have never been directed to pray outside. As an open and diverse school we take matters of welfare extremely seriously.”

The school also pledged to review its position providing facilities to students from Monday to Thursday. “We’ve seen some of the students on the streets to catch their prayers at lunchtime. They’re quite rushed and in a stress as they have to come all the way to the masjid which is about five, ten minutes away and then they have to go back,” said Chairman of the Loxford Muslim Society Alimul Al-Raze.
