Sun 01 May 2022:

On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that he had met with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in Kyiv and uploaded a video of her visit.

In a tweet following Mr. Zelensky’s post, Ms. Pelosi’s office confirmed the travel, which had not been revealed in advance for security reasons.

Secretary of State Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III paid a visit to Ukraine a week ago, during which they discussed increased American support for Ukraine in its battle against the Russian incursion.

Pelosi was joined by Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory W. Meeks of New York, Jim McGovern of Massachusetts, Jason Crow of Colorado, and Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff of California.

“Our delegation traveled to Kyiv to send an unmistakable and resounding message to the entire world: America stands firmly with Ukraine,” Pelosi said in a statement.

“We believe that we are visiting you to say thank you for your fight for freedom … Your fight is a fight for everyone. Our commitment is to be there for you until the fight is done,” Pelosi said in a video shared by Zelenskiy on Twitter.

Pelosi said Zelenskiy had made clear Ukraine needed more security, economic and humanitarian aid “to address the devastating human toll taken on the Ukrainian people by (President Vladimir) Putin’s diabolic invasion”.

“Our delegation proudly delivered the message that additional American support is on the way,” she said.
