UN RIGHTS OFFICE ADDS 61 COMPANIES TO LIST OF BUSINESSES INVOLVED IN ILLEGAL ISRAELI SETTLEMENT ACTIVITIES

The UN Human Rights Office on Friday added 61 companies to its database of businesses involved in specified activities related to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory, bringing the total to 214 companies from 11 countries.

The companies listed are based in Israel, South Africa, China, the US, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, France, the UK, Germany, and Mexico.

The latest update followed a review of 126 of the 381 companies that remained under consideration after last year’s assessment, according to a report released by the office.

Five previously listed companies were removed after the office found reasonable grounds to believe their involvement in the specified activities had ceased.

The updated database includes major online booking platforms and technology companies, as well as businesses operating in banking and financial services, telecommunications, construction, transportation, energy, agriculture, food production, waste management, and hospitality.

The office said 200 of the 214 companies were assessed as contributing to adverse impacts on the right to self-determination, while 14 were considered directly linked to such impacts. None were assessed at the “causation” level, which requires activities sufficient on their own to affect people’s ability to enjoy a human right.

“This report is another reminder to companies that they have human rights responsibilities and are expected to conduct due diligence to ensure that they do not become involved in human rights violations or abuses,” UN rights chief Volker Turk said.

The database was first issued in 2020 and was subsequently updated in 2023 and 2025. A full list of the companies currently included, as well as those removed in the latest update, was published alongside the report.

Around 750,000 Israeli occupiers live in 156 illegal settlements and 360 settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem.

The UN considers Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories illegal under international law and has repeatedly warned that settlement activity undermines the possibility of implementing a two-state solution.
