Sun 31 October 2021:

According to the Washington Post, some 12,000 members of the US Air Force rejected the US Department of Defense’s August decision on mandatory COVID-19 vaccination, putting them at risk of being discharged from duty.

The troops were to be fully vaccinated by Tuesday, according to the US defence ministry.

According to Newsweek, those who do not comply with the order are likely to be fired or charged by the military justice system, although the exact sanctions are unknown.

Since vaccination became mandatory two months ago, the US Air Force has become the first military service to encounter widespread vaccination rejection.

Approximately 60,000 members of the Air Force refused to be vaccinated as of early October. According to Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby, 97 percent of all US servicemen have received at least one shot and 87 percent have been fully vaccinated.

94 percent of the Air Force had been vaccinated as of last month, but the rate has dropped in recent weeks.

On August 25, Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin issued an order requiring all military personnel to receive at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccination by November 2, with the exception of members of the National Guard and Reserve who must present vaccination certificates by December 2.

An exception was made only for those who go on leave with subsequent release to the reserve at the end of their service, and will no longer be physically present at their workplace in the Ministry of Defence.

President Joe Biden’s mandatory vaccination order was challenged in court by 19 states earlier this week.
