Thu 10 November 2022:
Elon Musk announced on Thursday that Twitter will soon add “granularities” to verified badges and has launched the new verified Blue membership service for $8 on iOS in a select regions.
Musk announced that the company will now offer organizational affiliation and ID verification to verified users with Blue badges after abruptly dropping the gray “Official” badge for government accounts.
“Rollout of new verified Blue is intentionally limited just to iOS in a few countries with very little promotion. As we iron out issues, we will expand worldwide on all platforms,” said the new Twitter CEO.
In days to come, “we’ll add granularity to verified badge, such as organisational affiliation and ID verification”, he added.
Musk also said that Twitter will soon purge accounts that haven’t been active for months.
“Please note that Twitter will do lots of dumb things in coming months. We will keep what works & change what doesn’t,” he posted.
After pushing it out to certain users on Wednesday, Musk canceled the gray “official” verification symbol, declaring that the blue check will level the playing field for all users.
Prior to subsequently changing its policy, Twitter began awarding gray badges to public people worldwide.
