The International Court of Justice will deliver its ruling at 12:00 GMT 14:00 (South Africa time) on the emergency measures requested by South Africa in its genocide case against Israel.

What provisional measures has South Africa requested?

  • Israel shall immediately suspend its military operations in and against Gaza.
  • Israel should take all reasonable measures within its power to prevent genocide.
  • Israel should desist from any acts against the Palestinian people that fall under Article II of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. This includes killing members of the group and the deprivation of access to adequate food and water.
  • Israel should ensure its military does not engage in incitement, conspiracy to commit, attempt to commit, or complicity in genocide.
  • Israel should take measures to prevent the destruction and ensure the preservation of evidence related to allegations of acts of Genocide.
  • Israel should ensure no action is taken which might aggravate or extend the dispute before the Court.
