Sun 16 October 2022:

A day after claiming that his rocket company SpaceX could no longer afford to support its Starlink internet service in Ukraine, Elon Musk announced on Saturday that it would.

Musk tweeted: “the hell with it … even though starlink is still losing money & other companies are getting billions of taxpayer $, we’ll just keep funding ukraine govt for free”.

It was not immediately clear whether Musk’s offer was genuine or if he was expressing sarcasm. SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Musk said on Friday that SpaceX could not indefinitely fund Starlink in Ukraine. The service has helped civilians and military stay online during the war with Russia.

He made his remark after a media report that SpaceX had asked the Pentagon to pay for the donations of Starlink. The billionaire has been in online fights with Ukrainian officials over a peace plan he put forward which Ukraine says is too generous to Russia.

Iranian Protesters Struggle to Activate Elon Musk’s Starlink

After Elon Musk said his Starlink satellite-internet system was activated in Iran on Sept. 23, two men climbed onto the tiled roof of a residence in the Iranian city of Ahvaz and aimed a Starlink terminal into the sky. A faint signal was detected by the device for several seconds, then it disappeared, WSJ reported.

Musk’s rocket company SpaceX has been building a fleet of Starlink satellites in orbits relatively close to Earth, offering high-speed internet connections. The service hasn’t been available in heavily-sanctioned Iran, but the U.S. Treasury announced last month that it was expanding internet services available to Iranians in response to the protests.
