WELL-KNOWN RUSSIAN MILITARY BLOGGER VLADLEN TATARSKY KILLED IN ST PETERSBURG CAFE BLAST

Prominent Russian military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky was killed in a blast in a cafe in St Petersburg caused by an explosive device, according to Russian news agencies,

Tatarsky, real name Maxim Fomin, had over 560,000 Telegram followers and was one of the most prominent of the influential military bloggers who have provided a critical running commentary on Russia’s war in Ukraine.

He was among hundreds of attendees at a lavish Kremlin ceremony last September to proclaim Russia’s annexation of four partly occupied regions of Ukraine, a move that most countries at the UN condemned as illegal.

The Russian Interior Ministry confirmed that the blast at a cafe in the center of Russia’s Saint Petersburg killed one person, war correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky.

“At 6:13 p.m. (15:13 GMT) the police of the Vasileostrovsky District received information that an explosion had occurred at a cafe at 25 Universitetskaya Embankment.

As a result of the incident one person died, he was identified as military correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky. Sixteen people were injured, they are being examined by medical personnel,” the ministry said.

Russian Interior Ministry officials have been deployed to the scene. St. Petersburg police officers and emergency services are also working at the site, the causes and circumstances of the incident are being established, the ministry said.

“The number of victims of the explosion at a cafe in Saint Petersburg has increased to 15 people, according to the updated information,” the representative said, adding that one person died, according to the representative of emergency services.

“The prosecutor’s office of the Vasileostrovsky district of Saint Petersburg launched an investigation into the explosion at one of the restaurants on the University embankment. All the causes and circumstances of the incident are now being established,”  The prosecutor’s office of Vasileostrovsky district of the Russian city of St. Petersburg said.
