Users will be able to send audio notes via status updates thanks to a new feature called “voice status updates” that is purportedly being rolled out for Android beta by the Meta-owned messaging service WhatsApp.

According to WABetaInfo, beta testers can now send audio notes as status updates by accessing the new feature from the text status area.

By allowing users to delete a recording before sharing it, the platform also gives users more control over their voice recordings.

The maximum recording time for a voice note is 30 seconds and users must update their version of WhatsApp to listen to voice notes shared via status.

Voice notes which will be shared as status updates will be end-to-end encrypted, to make sure that only the people users choose within their privacy settings can listen to them.

Voice notes posted via status will vanish after 24 hours, just like photographs and videos.

Furthermore, after submitting voice notes as status updates, users can even delete them for everyone.

In the upcoming weeks, the new tool will be made available to more users, according to the report.
