Numerous advancements have been made in the field of prosthetics, however it has been difficult to modify the products because of the difficulties machine learning has encountered.

But a recent invention from a British business named Covvi has identified a possible solution to the problem. Utilizing “electrical impulses from the muscles in the upper arm into movement powered by motors.” tThe “Nexus Hand” will enable users to carry out tasks like holding a glass or unlocking a door. Additionally, it can always be updated via the built-in Bluetooth technology.

Australian swimmer Jessica Smith said the device is “amazing” and that she chose to have it despite a traumatic experience with a prosthetic when she was a child.

“I’ve had a few kids ask if I can do different hand gestures, some polite some not so polite,” she said. “I asked Covvi this morning, and I know that will be done in the next couple of hours.”

“They think it’s amazing and I’m like half human-half robot,” she added.

The Bluetooth device attached to the bionic arm was the brainchild of company founder Simon Pollard who called “a first of its kind”. “The fact we can change some of the things that the customer wants remotely is a really powerful thing and a first to market,” he said in an official statement.

Jessica Smith said updates to the hand’s functionality can be added quickly.

“I’ve had a few kids ask if I can do different hand gestures, some polite some not so polite,” she said.
