Tue 11 November 2025:

At least twelve people have been killed while 27 people have been injured in a suicide blast outside the district and sessions court building in Islamabad’s G-11 area, according to officials.

The blast occurred on Tuesday near the entrance of Islamabad district court, which is typically crowded with a large number of people.

As official probe the scene, no group has yet to claim responsibility for any attack. However, similar blasts have been carried out armed groups, including the Pakistan Taliban (Tehreek-e Taliban Pakistan or TTP).

Local media showed gory pictures of the site, with bloodied individuals lying near a police van.

“We are probing what kind of blast it was. It is not clear yet. We will be able to provide more details after we get a report from our forensic team,” a police spokesperson said.

“As I parked my car and entered the complex … I heard a loud bang on the gate,” lawyer Rustam Malik told AFP after the blast, which sent people fleeing and damaged vehicles in the area.

Videos of the incident on social media showed flames and plumes of smoke rising into the air from the remains of a charred vehicle behind a security barrier.

“It was complete chaos, lawyers and people were running inside the complex. I saw two dead bodies lying on the gate and several cars were on fire,” said Malik, one of the witnesses who spoke to AFP.

In a post on X, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the recovery of the injured, and paid tribute to law enforcement agencies.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also called the incident a “wake-up call”.

“We are in a state of war. Anyone who thinks that the Pakistan Army is fighting this war in the Afghan-Pakistan border region and the remote areas of Balochistan, today’s suicide attack at the Islamabad district courts is a wake-up call,” he said.

“In this environment, it would be futile to hold out greater hope for successful negotiations with the rulers of Kabul,” he added.

The blast came hours after Pakistani security forces said they thwarted an overnight attack by armed combatants to storm a cadet college in Wana in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the border with Afghanistan.

Pakistani authorities said that attack involved a suicide car bomber and five other militants, and targeted an area that until recently used to be a base for the TTP, al-Qaeda and other armed groups.

The blast in Islamabad comes a day after a major explosion rocked neighbouring India’s capital of New Delhi.

Indian police have invoked “anti-terror” laws as they probe the blast, which involved a vehicle near the Red Fort landmark, and killed 13 people.
