Mon 21 February 2022:

According to the Pentagon, an attack on Ukraine could occur today, but there is still time for diplomacy.

This development comes as world leaders renew diplomatic efforts in the hope of preventing a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to the White House, President Joe Biden has agreed in principle to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin if he does not attack his neighbor, which US officials believe is becoming more likely.

Russian forces were scheduled to return home when military drills in Belarus, which is located on Ukraine’s northern border, were set to end on Sunday.

Moscow and Minsk, on the other hand, have stated that Russian forces will remain in the country indefinitely.

Fears that Russian forces will be dispatched to Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital and a metropolis of 3 million people less than three hours drive from the Belarus border, have arisen as a result of their prolonged presence in Belarus.

More than 150,000 Russian troops are massed near Ukraine’s borders, according to US sources.

Despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s and the Kremlin’s claims that some troops have begun to leave, Biden told reporters that more Russian troops have entered the area, contradicting Moscow’s claims.

Putin’s intentions to strike his former Soviet neighbor are still unknown.

Russia has denied any invasion plans and reiterated its opposition to the United States and NATO admitting Ukraine to the armed alliance.
