China urged the US on Tuesday to lift sanctions on Cuba, terming the reinstating of Havana to its so-called list of “state sponsors of terrorism” unfounded.

“Repeatedly using the so-called list of state sponsors of terrorism to impose unilateral sanctions against Cuba is completely groundless,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a news conference in Beijing.

He said China is against US interference in Cuba’s domestic affairs and urged Washington to immediately lift its blockade against Cuba, and remove Havana from the list of “state sponsors of terrorism.”

Beijing encouraged Washington to act on elevating US-Cuba relations and preserving the Western part of the world as “peaceful and stable.”

Trump reinstated Cuba’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism on Tuesday, reversing an executive order days earlier by former President Joe Biden.

Guo added that the US putting Cuba back on the list after taking it off the list six days ago makes people “question” Washington’s “credibility.”
