DELHI POLICE CRACKS DOWN ON POSTS TARGETING PM MODI, SEEKS DATA FROM X

The Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) over social media posts allegedly containing “objectionable and defamatory” content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the recent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests at Jantar Mantar.

The case has been registered by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell under provisions relating to criminal intimidation, public mischief and defamation.

As part of the investigation, the police have directed X to remove or disable access to the identified posts and accounts, while seeking subscriber information, data and activity logs linked to them.

In a notice sent to the platform, the police stated that the content had allegedly harmed the Prime Minister’s “reputation, dignity and public image” and warned that its continued circulation could disturb public order and fuel unnecessary political controversy.

The notice also instructed the platform to take down the specified content within three hours of receiving the communication and preserve all relevant data for evidentiary purposes.

According to the report, Delhi Police has also identified around 500 social media accounts accused of sharing alleged deepfake and AI-generated content related to the protests and has recommended that the accounts be blocked through the respective social media platforms.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) asked why ordinary citizens should be prevented from questioning the Prime Minister, arguing that “in a functioning democracy, citizens have every right to demand answers and accountability” from an elected representative.

“Why can’t ordinary people on social media ask questions to the very man they elected to serve them? Does the Delhi Police genuinely believe he is ‘non-biological’ and therefore immune to the questions and frustrations of mere mortals?” they asked.

The development follows weeks of protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. The 36-day agitation was called off on July 25 after the government accepted the protesters’ key demands, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Earlier, on July 20,police crackdown on protesters left many injured. Police had registered 15 FIRs against the protesters, but later decided to withdraw them.
