FORMER MALAYSIAN PM MAHATHIR MOHAMAD ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL

Mahathir Mohamad, the former Malaysian prime minister, was admitted to hospital on Thursday and will undergo a full medical examination, according to the medical facility.

Mahathir arrived at 7:00 p.m. (1100 GMT) and is expected to stay for a few days, according to the National Heart Institute.

It did not specify why he was admitted, and his aides declined to elaborate.

Mahathir has previously suffered from heart problems, having had several heart attacks and undergoing bypass surgery.

He is one of Malaysia’s most powerful politicians in recent decades, having served as Prime Minister twice for a total of 24 years.

He served as premier for the first time from 1981 to 2003, then made a comeback in 2018 at the age of 92, leading a reformist coalition.
