◼️ Ramaphosa extends Madlanga commission’s final report deadline: Vincent Magwenya, spokesperson to the president, said the new deadline allows the Commission to process additional evidence, including the testimony of various experts who have made recommendations relating to the commission’s terms of reference.The commission handed its second interim report to Ramaphosa on 29 May, five months after submitting the first interim report in December 2025. The first report named 14 officials for action, while the second named only four.

◼️ New guidelines for shelf prices, product labels and receipts: They will inform suppliers, importers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and service providers of what they need to do to ensure that product and service descriptors comply with the law. The products for sale were without labels and product descriptions, thereby limiting consumers’ ability to exercise their right to choose and make informed purchasing decisions prior to concluding transactions.

◼️ South Africa circus lifts poor young performers into the spotlight: For many young South Africans, missing out on training opportunities often means spending years on the fringes of the labor market. Many tend to stay unemployed rather than move into informal work, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development said. Michelle Fok, an organizer of the social program, says the goal is to create pathways into professional circus to help jobless young people. Unemployment among 18 to 34-year-old South Africans was about 45% in 2025, according to Statistics South Africa.

◼️ High Court orders Eskom to pay damages after child electrocuted by powerline: According to the judgment, the child stepped on an electric cable lying on the ground, resulting in burns to his feet and arm. His grandmother testified that she had frequently visited the area to collect wood and had seen low-hanging powerlines and a cable lying on the ground. She said the cable remained in that condition for more than a year and that people collecting wood kept their distance from the wires. A central issue in the case was whether Eskom was responsible for the electrical infrastructure where the child was injured.

◼️SA holds off on AI rules: South Africa’s financial regulator will await the findings of a study by the world’s top standards-settings body before setting up new rules for on artificial intelligence (AI) the country, it said. The Basel-based Financial Stability Board is working on principles to help firms responsibly navigate AI adoption in a rapidly evolving landscape and is due to publish its final report, listed as a Group of 20 deliverable under the 2026 US presidency of the forum, next month.
