Anyone who develops compatible symptoms after possible exposure to Ebola should contact a healthcare provider urgently and call ahead before visiting a facility. ◼️ The car is gone, but the debt lives on: For motorists already struggling to keep up with vehicle repayments, losing their cars can be only the beginning of their financial difficulties. Even after a vehicle has been sold, borrowers may still owe their lenders substantial amounts, potentially leaving them facing years of further repayments. Figures from the National Credit Regulator (NCR), cited by the NFO, show that more than 22,600 vehicles were repossessed during the first six months of 2023, averaging about 3,770 a month.

◼️ She is a racist and hates the EFF: EFF leader Julius Malema has launched a scathing attack on Helen Zille, saying she has a history of racism and lied about fighting against apartheid. He also accused Zille of hating the EFF because it is the only party which cannot be controlled by white people. “Helen knows that if we go into a coalition with DA, we are going to talk from the level of equals. There is no white supremacy and inferiority from black people,” he said.

◼️ Motorists are under attack in SA: An industry source has informed MyBroadband of mass smishing campaigns targeting South African motorists, after identifying 200-odd domains mimicking traffic authorities and petrol station brands. Many communications mimicking the AARTO system are often accompanied by threats of licence blocks, vehicle licence disc blocks, and further penalties. In one example, scammers urged motorists to pay R250 on the day they received the communication to qualify for a discount.

◼️ Midnight cap on alcohol sales: The economic and health costs of binge drinking in South Africa should be top of mind when provinces consider extending trading hours. The Constitutional Court will hear next month in a case that will have nationwide implications as to what are permissible trading hours. “South Africans are among the heaviest drinkers in the world. The South African Medical Research Council estimates that drinkers consume an average of 64.6 grams of pure alcohol per day. In 2015 alone, alcohol caused an estimated 62,300 adult deaths, 60% of them in lower socio-economic groups, and cost the economy between 10% and 12% of GDP,” Kashifa Ancer said.
