◼️ Saps say as Feroz Khan dismissed from service: “We have pushed for accountability in this matter for a long time. Khan repeatedly turned to litigation as the disciplinary process progressed, but accountability cannot be litigated away,” Cameron said in a post on X. “The criminal proceedings and outstanding matters before the Madlanga commission must now run their course.” According to media reports, Khan’s legal team confirmed receipt of the Saps dismissal notice and that they will challenge his removal.

◼️ How much do teachers earn in South Africa in 2026? South Africa’s top public school principals are among the highest-paid educators in the country, with salaries rising significantly as teachers move into senior and management positions. At the other end of the scale, a Principal P5 can earn up to R1.33 million a year, which works out to about R110,569 a month before deductions. However, a principal’s actual salary depends on the applicable post level and notch. For instance, the published P5 range is R892,764 to R1,326,822.

◼️ SARS can take money directly from South Africans’ bank accounts: If a taxpayer does not make a payment or engage with SARS within 10 business days, the issue is escalated. One of the actions is issuing a third-party appointment requiring a debtor or a bank holding the taxpayer’s money to pay that amount over to SARS. “This can have an immediate impact on a taxpayer’s liquidity, and often, there is no further notice to the taxpayer, beyond the letter of final demand,” he said.

◼️ Airline cancels last stadium fly-by after controversy in SA: Airlink has pulled its application for a flypast over FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, 5 September 2026, when the Springboks will face the All Blacks in the final test of the Greatest Rivalry Tour. Videos and images of the flyover circulated on social media, prompting much local and international interest. The jet’s altitude above sea level was about 62 to 64 metres. However, in the context of the stadium roof, the aircraft was about 1.22 to 2.74 metres lower than Flightradar’s lowest recorded flight over structures.

◼️ El Niño is on its way! What’s the worst-case scenario for South Africa? Speaking to 702’s Bongani Bingwa, Dr Ikalafeng Kgakatsi from the Department of Agriculture said farmers should prepare for prolonged hot, dry conditions. “You must reduce, or you must refrain from planting because this might be the worst-case scenario.” The warning came as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) tracked a very strong El Niño event, with warmer-than-normal waters in the tropical Pacific. Experts predict it could affect South Africa’s usual summer rainfall patterns.
