◼️ Six South Africans still missing after Nepal flash floods as DNA sent for identification: DNA profiles from biological relatives of the missing South Africans have now been sent to Nepalese police and Interpol in Kathmandu to assist with identification efforts. The process was initiated following a formal request from the Nepalese government, with DIRCO enlisting the SAPS Victim Identification Centre under the Division: Detectives and Forensic Services to co-ordinate the collection of samples.

◼️ Refugees fear fresh clash as March and March ‘cleanup’ looms: Refugee leaders living on the pavement outside the Che Guevara Road Home Affairs office in Durban have raised the alarm over an alleged fresh attack, claiming the group known as March and March plans to return to the area for another “cleanup operation”. Bishop Raphael Bahebwa and Kafuti Muyumba, speaking on behalf of the refugees, allege they were attacked last Thursday after March and March supporters arrived at the site accompanied by police.

◼️ Eskom Warns of Power Cuts for Unsafe Solar panels: Whether this installed base is treated as a compliance risk to be policed, or as a resource to be accommodated has implications well beyond the individual homeowner facing a letter of demand to register. Eskom’s registration and compliance campaign has caused real alarm among hundreds of thousands of South African households that have installed solar PV and battery systems, largely in response to years of load shedding and steeply rising electricity tariffs.

◼️ New rules to stop politicians from spreading lies: The code will require political parties to verify the accuracy of information they share, or that is shared on their behalf, before it is distributed. It will also require parties and political candidates to publicly retract and correct any false or misleading information they share within 36 hours of becoming aware of it. The code specifies that parties and candidates must avoid using “deceptive practices” such as fake online accounts, bot networks, and coordinated inauthentic behaviour.

◼️ Two foreign nationals arrested in multimillion-rand mandrax lab bust: Law enforcement officials have discovered yet another drug lab in the country, this time in Erasmia in Pretoria on Wednesday. Addressing members of the media at the scene, Deputy National Commissioner for Policing Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili said the operation uncovered a sophisticated manufacturing operation allegedly producing about 800 000 Mandrax tablets a day.
