New Device Features 7.6-Inch Inner Display, A20 Pro Chip and $1,999 Starting Price

Apple officially introduced its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, on Wednesday during its annual hardware event at the company’s headquarters in California.

“iPhone Duo is unlike any iPhone you’ve experienced before,” the voiceover in the official Apple presentation package announced.

The company said the device features an asymmetric design that unfolds into a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner display. Apple stated that the screen is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max and 80% larger than the standard Pro model, both of which were also showcased at the event.

Dual Displays and Slim Design

Apple said the iPhone Duo’s outer screen offers a 5.4-inch viewing area. Both displays use liquid glass to adapt fluidly to different aspect ratios.

The company also introduced a custom nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare, reflections and the visibility of the display crease.

When fully opened, the device is billed as the thinnest iPhone ever produced. It uses an aerospace-grade titanium frame to maintain structural strength.

A20 Pro Chip and Enhanced Connectivity

The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, which the company said delivers up to 35% higher sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.

To manage the thermal demands of on-device artificial intelligence, Apple said it developed a thermal architecture and integrated vapor chamber to maintain performance during high-frame-rate gaming.

Connectivity is handled by Apple’s custom C2 cellular modem, which the company claims offers 50% faster uploads and 15% better energy efficiency than previous hardware.

The device is eSIM-only worldwide, allowing Apple to use the internal space for a dual-battery architecture that delivers up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display.

48MP Camera and Durability Features

Apple also unveiled a camera system featuring a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera with zero shutter lag.

The company said the iPhone Duo supports 4K video recording at 120 frames per second and 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapses.

For durability, Apple confirmed the device is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance and uses Ceramic Shield 2 on the front display for enhanced scratch protection.
