◼️ Madlanga Commission goes green: As the commissioners donning Bafana Bafana jerseys entered the hearing venue, the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria, their show of support was met with spontaneous applause from those in attendance. Bafana Bafana are set to take on Mexico in their World Cup opener on Thursday night, with coach Hugo Broos expressing confidence in his team’s readiness to face a formidable opponent on home turf. President Cyril Ramaphosa has also called on South Africans to unite behind Bafana Bafana.

◼️ KZN govt seeks UN help, set to host illegal migration summit: KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli said migration remained an important contributor to economic development, cultural diversity, and social progress, but warned that unmanaged migration posed challenges for both communities and migrants. According to Ntuli, the programme seeks to strengthen documentation systems, improve coordination among stakeholders, promote social cohesion, and ensure migration management is conducted within constitutional and legal frameworks. The premier extended a formal invitation to United Nations agencies to participate in the Provincial Summit on Undocumented Foreign Nationals scheduled for June 25.

◼️ More than farming: At Green Acres Farm in Diepsloot, one of Afrika Tikkun’s agripreneurship initiatives, young people receive hands-on agricultural training while earning an income and gaining workplace experience. According to Afrika Tikkun, its Head Start programme has assisted 8 539 young people, with 77% gaining specialist skills in sectors including ICT, call centres and agriculture, while 4 724 secured employment placements. According to the organisation, nearly 4.7 million young South Africans are unemployed, while the youth unemployment rate sits at almost 61%.

◼️ Digital South African rand: The South African Reserve Bank has been experimenting with the implementation of a digital rand, with it offering significant opportunities for payment innovation while preserving monetary sovereignty. “While South Africa has been at the frontier of wholesale payments relative to many of its peers, we have lagged in keeping pace with innovation in fast retail payments and the move to real-time fast payments,” Reserve Bank deputy governor Rashad Cassim said.

◼️ Laws to protect e-hailing drivers: Creecy said her department was aware of the emerging risks and incidents in the operational environment of the e-hailing industry in South Africa. In response, the department developed regulations requiring specific safety features for e-hailing vehicles, including panic buttons, live vehicle tracking, and other precautions.
