TRUMP SAYS THE US WILL BE HITTING IRAN ‘VERY HARD’ TONIGHT

Middle East World

Thu 11 June 2026:

US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the US will be hitting Iran “very hard tonight,” adding that Washington will seize control of Iranian oil infrastructure points in the near future.

“The United States will be hitting Iran (Whose Navy, Air Force, Radar, Anti Aircraft, and all other forms of Defense, together with most of its offensive capability, are GONE!), VERY HARD TONIGHT,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets, much like we have with Venezuela, which is working out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States of America,” he added.

His remarks came after an exchange of attacks between the US and Iran continued for a second consecutive day, with US President Donald Trump warning that Washington would launch additional strikes unless Tehran immediately accepts the peace deal.

Trump earlier said Iran had taken too long to negotiate a deal, and would have to pay a price.

The talks since the April ceasefire, which was mediated by Pakistan, have focused on permanently ending the war that began on Feb. 28, unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, and reaching a consensus on Iran’s nuclear program.

Both the US and Iran are trying to ‘hold out for a better deal’

Risk analyst Torbjorn Soltvedt says there has been a “fragile truce” in place, but “low-intensity conflict” between the US and Iran has put “pressure” on the ceasefire.

He said over the last few days, the US and Iran are engaging in more “severe conflict” with each other.

“In terms of the negotiations, they obviously continue, but the problem at the moment is that both sides are trying to negotiate from a position of strength.”

With the US, there’s a sense that they can “ramp up pressure” on Iran and “negotiate from a stronger position if they wait”, he said.

On the Iranian side, they feel that by blocking shipping through the Strait of Hormuz they are applying pressure on the global economy, and so they feel they can “hold out for a better deal”, Soltved explained.

He said Iran’s strategy has been working, as many countries have felt the economic ramifications of the conflict.

“We are seeing now in the US, inflation is reaching a three-year high,” he said.

Soltvedt said it’s a “very unstable environment that can break down very quickly and easily,” if no formal agreement is reached.
