◼️ SA fails to answer the US’ Five Asks: Papenfus was part of a delegation that went to the United States and was one of the first to learn of Washington’s four, which has now become five, demands for South Africa. The White House said meeting these demands is critical to restore diplomatic relations with Pretoria. He warned that the government’s refusal to engage with Washington’s demands put South Africa in a vulnerable position. The five asks of South Africa are:

◼️ Julius Malema attacks AfriForum: “We do so unapologetically, and AfriForum, even with the might of Donald Trump, will not silence us.” It added that AfriForum has aggressively pursued SAPS and the NPA on behalf of a white male school principal while dismissing the human rights of an African child. “AfriForum’s relentless political prosecution against Julius Malema has reached an unprecedented low,” the EFF said.

◼️ RIP ProNutro: PepsiCo pulls the plug after 64 years: PepsiCo is discontinuing ProNutro in South Africa, 64 years after it was launched. This comes five months after the group faced backlash for its “new generation” ProNutro that consumers rejected. PepsiCo says, despite its best efforts, it could not recreate the original taste and texture with new technology.

◼️ Mexican cartel’s SA meth empire exposed: South Africa is the “perfect place” to produce methamphetamine, a security source told AFP. It has huge expanses to hide the labs, global sea and air connections and “corruption, which plays a big role”, he said. The large-scale production and transit of the synthetic drugs in Africa is also fuelling consumption there, worrying authorities across the region.
