Here’s what’s happening in South Africa today:👇🏼
◼️ ‘No Vote’ party: “Many say that voting makes no difference… The situation does not change at all,” said Ipsos South Africa director and political analyst Mari Harris. “People say politicians only promise things and deliver nothing of their promises. They complain that, as a ‘normal’ person, you only ever hear from politicians when it is election time. They disappear soon afterwards. People also say that politicians only care about their friends and family and organise work and other opportunities for them. These feelings are prevalent, even if people are going to vote on 4 November.”

◼️ Criminal investigation into Sasol: Sasol allegedly dumped hazardous chemical waste, including vanadium, potassium carbonate, diethanolamine, and heavy metals, into the Klipspruit River catchment. Investigators are examining whether hazardous substances have entered public watercourses, such as the Klipspruit River. They are also looking into whether Sasol officials provided false or misleading information to environmental inspectors or parliament during past compliance checks.

◼️ 44 women come forward in KZN Midlands sexual abuse scandal: “The man was primarily focused on underage girls though,” said Nathanson, adding that many of the alleged victims were groomed and abused from a single posh private school in the area. He said the man was also allegedly banned from at least two gyms for approaching children. But it was an audit trail on a 15-year-old girl’s phone that initially led Nathanson to the man.

Khan is expected to testify in a private hearing at the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday. ◼️ Jehovah’s Witness lifts ban on blood transfusions: According to the statement, the adjustment follows earlier updates regarding blood fractions and the use of one’s own blood during medical procedures. “Since the Bible does not comment on such decisions, they are a matter of individual conscience. That same reasoning has now been extended to the four main components of blood,” it said. For decades, the religious prohibition on blood transfusions has presented challenges for healthcare workers, particularly in emergency rooms and critical care units, where receiving blood can be the difference between life and death.
