◼️ US gives SA another deadline: The hearing concerned the Section 301 Investigations into the Acts, Policies, and Practices of 60 Economies Related to the Failure to Impose and Effectively Enforce a Prohibition on the Importation of Goods Produced with Forced Labour. “In the oral testimony, South Africa emphasised that the country has laws that prohibit forced labour and that the country has ratified the relevant International Labour Organisation fundamental Conventions,” the DTIC said.

◼️ Gun licence renewals plunge: Many gun owners in SA are no longer renewing their licences, endangering the public as the weapons are now being used illegally, according to GFSA. “Once a firearm licence expires, it’s dead. It can’t be renewed – not even if the owner applies the next day. Instead, the owner has to apply for a new licence. The only way to renew a licence is to apply before it expires.” Statistics showed that civilians reported an average of 8 000 firearms lost or stolen each year over the past three years.
