◼️ United States gives huge win to SA: The United States House of Representatives on Tuesday (1 September) voted to pass the bill that had been amended and passed by the US Senate earlier in August. The bill was fully expected to pass, as it was necessary to avoid another government shutdown. It ensures that government funding can continue after 1 October 2026. It passed by a vote of 340 to 78 and was sent to US President Donald Trump to be signed into law.

◼️ Eskom increased prices so much that revenue rose 118%: Eskom sold less electricity in 2026 than it did a decade ago. However, its revenue from electricity sales rose 118% thanks to above-inflation tariff increases. The primary driver of this revenue growth has been the rise in the average price per unit of electricity sold, which has more than tripled over the last ten years. As Eskom’s prices continue to climb, energy becomes unaffordable for more households and businesses across South Africa, with many moving towards alternative energy sources.
