◼️ SA must prepare for end of US HIV funding: Bekker stressed that having the funding for 25 years has been amazing. “It’s saved so many, many lives, particularly in Africa. The impact is going to vary from country to country. “But probably it’s going to be most felt in terms of primary prevention, because that often is the part that countries don’t, when the chips are down, they’ll put money into treatment because, obviously, lives need to be saved. But when it comes to prevention, that’s often thought of as a sort of add-on.

◼️ EFF races to ConCourt to revive Ramaphosa Phala Phala impeachment: In an urgent bid to restore parliamentary oversight, the EFF have petitioned the Constitutional Court to overturn a Western Cape High Court ruling that halted Parliament’s Section 89 impeachment process against President Cyril Ramaphosa. Ramaphosa emerged victorious after his interdict application to halt Parliament’s impeachment process relating to the Phala Phala scandal was successful.

◼️ Mbalula: Anti-Immigration agenda driven by politics: Mbalula said some anti-immigration movements had been influenced by political interests rather than only concerns about migration. “At the end of June, forces under an anti-immigrant banner set out to shut down parts of our country,” he said. He said those groups were now divided because of competing political interests.

◼️ The car now officially a new target for hijackers in SA: He previously said hijackers favour vehicles that “blend in” and can travel through traffic without attracting attention. Common colours such as white and silver make these vehicles even harder to identify on busy roads. Once stolen, vehicles are frequently dismantled for parts or illegally re-registered before being resold on the market. This makes high-volume models particularly valuable to organised crime syndicates.

◼️ Senior politician sends a message about data bundles that expire in SA: Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies, Khusela Diko, has said there is no technical reason for mobile data to expire in South Africa. Vodacom highlighted four areas of concern surrounding the amended regulations: out-of-bundle usage, bundle rollovers, bundle transfers, and the exemption of mobile virtual network operators.
