Fri 17 June 2022:
According to local media on Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is considering creating a coalition government with opposition leader and former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Bennett met with senior political aides, including Aron Shaviv, in the Defense Ministry’s Tel Aviv headquarters late Thursday.
According to the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (KAN), the meeting discussed the possibility of Bennett and Netanyahu creating a coalition government.
Bennett’s office confirmed the meeting but denied discussing the topic of forming an alternate government.
Bennett’s government has lost its parliamentary majority following withdrawals of lawmakers from the coalition that formed the government last year.
Netanyahu, the right-wing Likud Party’s leader, aims to pass a bill dissolving the Knesset and forcing new elections, but he still has a chance to form a government if he receives 61 votes in the 120-member Knesset.
