ISTANBUL EXPANDS EYE IN THE SKY WITH POLICE DRONES IN 39 DISTRICTS

Istanbul police used drones to conduct an aerial security survey across the city as part of a broader drive to watch public order and safety from the air.

On the instruction of Istanbul Police Chief Selami Yildiz, drone units were deployed in 39 districts of Istanbul as part of ongoing public order and security inspections.

During the aerial monitoring and surveillance operations, teams identified people consuming alcohol in an open area near the historic city walls in Istanbul’s Fatih district, on the European side of the city.

Through the drone’s onboard speaker system, officers issued a warning to those in the area: ‘This is a police drone. Consuming alcohol is prohibited in this area. Leave the area immediately.’ Following the announcement, the individuals left the area.

Drones support broader security operations

Drones deployed by police teams for public order and narcotics inspections play a significant role in tracking suspects, monitoring crowded public spaces and forested areas, and supporting efforts against fire risk, police said.

The use of drones has become an increasingly common tool for Turkish law enforcement, allowing officers to cover wider areas and respond to violations in real time without direct physical presence on the ground.
