MAJOR PEW SURVEY EXPOSES ISRAEL’S DEEPENING ISOLATION

A major Pew Research Center survey has found that Israel’s global standing continues to plunge, with majorities in most of the 36 countries polled viewing the country unfavourably.

The survey, conducted between February 8 and May 13, found that a median of 67 percent of adults across the countries surveyed held an unfavourable view of Israel, compared with just 25 percent who viewed it favourably.

Pew said most interviews took place after the US and Israel launched their war against Iran on February 28, a campaign that has fuelled economic hardship globally.

Hostility towards Israel was especially pronounced in Muslim-majority countries included in the survey, including Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Turkiye, as well as the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. Pew said it could not conduct polling in Gaza.

European publics were no less hostile. In Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, about two-thirds of adults or more said they held a very unfavourable view of Israel.

The findings suggest Israel’s international image, already battered by the Gaza genocide, has deteriorated further since the war on Iran. Pew said unfavourable views rose in 13 of the 24 countries where trend data were available.

In Argentina, for example, 46 percent of adults held an unfavourable view of Israel in 2025. That figure has now climbed to 55 percent.

The share of people with very unfavourable views also rose by double digits in Australia, Italy, Nigeria, Poland and the United Kingdom.
