During his inauguration on Saturday, a soldier attacked Zeinalabidin Hurrem, a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who was just appointed governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan region.

When Hurrem was speaking at a ceremony in Tabriz, the regional capital, someone came on stage and slapped him.

“The soldier attacked me because his wife was vaccinated by a male health worker,” the governor later told state television.

Hurrem said he does not know the soldier, forgave him and will not file a complaint.

Meanwhile, prosecutors in Tabriz launched an investigation against the soldier, who is part of the Revolutionary Guards.

In a statement, the IRGC expressed its support for Hurrem, stating that legal action would be taken against the military official.
