WASHINGTON — In a newly released video from NowThis, actor Robert De Niro and more than 1,000 former federal prosecutors make the case for indicting President Donald Trump. Referring to a statement signed by the prosecutors, De Niro, who has played special counsel Robert Mueller on “Saturday Night Live,” told viewers, “their conclusion should trouble us all.”

De Niro went on to introduce a group of former prosecutors who discussed the special counsel’s findings and explained why they believed Trump should be indicted.  “We all strongly believe that there is more than enough evidence to indict President Trump for multiple felony counts of obstruction of justice,” said former assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Rodgers.

“The evidence shows that President Trump tried to stop, limit, and interfere with the Mueller investigation and other federal investigations surrounding him,” added former U.S. Attorney Elie Honig.  The petition was created by a group called Protect Democracy, a group of former White House lawyers that aims “to prevent our democracy from declining into a more authoritarian form of government

The video’s release comes as calls for impeachment have intensified among 2020 Democratic presidential contenders and congressional Democrats, especially after Wednesday’s speech by special counsel Robert Mueller about his investigation’s findings. Mueller said that under Department of Justice policy, they could not seek an indictment for Trump, so they did not make a judgment on a charge of obstruction of justice.  On May 18, the first House Republican, Justin Amash of Michigan, announced that he supported impeaching Trump for his attempts to obstruct justice during the Mueller investigation.
