Mon 23 August 2021:
PayPal stated on Monday that users in the United Kingdom will be able to buy, hold, and sell cryptocurrency using the company’s website and mobile app.
“This new service starts rolling out this week,” according to a statement by the company.
PayPal hoped that by doing so, consumers would be more likely to explore and learn about the benefits and risks of cryptocurrency before dealing.
“We are committed to continue working closely with regulators in the UK, and around the world, to offer our support— and meaningfully contribute to shaping the role digital currencies will play in the future of global finance and commerce,” Jose Fernandez da Ponte, vice president and general manager for blockchain, crypto and digital currencies at PayPal, said in a statement.
Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash are the four types of cryptocurrencies available to customers.
Checkout with Crypto was launched in March, allowing consumers in the United States to use their cryptocurrencies alongside other payment options in their PayPal wallet to make purchases at businesses all around the world.
It launched crypto services on its mobile payment app Venmo in the United States in April.
