WhatsApp Channels, the broadcasting feature that lets companies and celebrities update their messaging app followers, is getting a lot of new features added to it. Polling feature, voice notes, and channel updates to Status will be available soon.

On Wednesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased the new polling option to his followers on his own WhatsApp channel, where he also revealed the new Channel features. Last year, WhatsApp launched the Channels feature, which functions as a tool for one-way broadcasting. With frequent updates from organizations, sports teams, and public personalities, Channels aims to boost usage on the messaging network owned by Meta.

The new updates aim to bring more engagement to Channels, with Channel admins getting the ability to send out polls to members. Polls have existed for a while now on regular and group chats on WhatsApp. Channel admins will now also be able to send out updates in the form of voice notes, thus engaging the audience in a more direct and personal manner.

Status updates from WhatsApp Channels can now be shared there as well. To accomplish this, a user can long press the Channel update they wish to publish, choose “Forward,” and then choose “My Status.” And lastly, adding more than one admin to a single channel is now possible with the latest changes.

Channels, which primarily serve as a one-way communication tool, has received updates since launch that aim to bring more engagement and interactivity. WhatsApp Channels reportedly rolled out a beta update in November 2023 that allows Channel admins to share Stickers with their followers. The same month, the platform was first seen working on the ability to share polls in Channels.

Channels have been a popular feature in a brief period of time. WhatsApp claims that over 2 billion users use the messaging service globally. On the other hand, according to a statement Mark Zuckerberg posted on the network last year, WhatsApp Channels topped 500 million monthly active users in the first seven weeks of its launch.
