Mon 23 May 2022:

According to Roscosmos space agency Director General Dmitry Rogozin, Russia wants to deploy roughly 50 new nuclear-capable Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles by the end of the autumn.

He informed the Interfax news agency over the weekend that the rockets would be built in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk.

In late April, Russia launched the first test of its next-generation Sarmat missile from the Plesetsk spaceport in northern Russia.

RUSSIAN MILITARY WILL DEPLOY NEW INTERCONTINENTAL NUCLEAR MISSILES BY AUTUMN

The Sarmat has a range of 18,000 kilometres and can be armed with nuclear warheads. This would allow Russia to reach targets worldwide by launching attacks via either the North or the South Pole.

The first Sarmats are due to be stationed in the Krasnoyarsk Region.

President Vladimir Putin had threatened the West with the missile launch in April, which came amid his campaign against Ukraine.

Putin declared at the time that the missile could bypass all kinds of defenses and force states to “think twice” before attacking Russia.
